How is lifting concrete accomplished?

There are two approaches.  One is “pressure raising” and the other is a “mechanical raising”.  Champion Concrete Coatings and Lifting uses both approaches.

Mechanical Raising:

A  5/8 inch hole in drilled in the  concrete slab to be raised.  An anchor is then placed in the hole.  A removable eye bolt is now placed inside the anchor.

Then using a combination of chains, metal poles and hydraulic jacks, the slab is lifted back into place.  If there is resistance, the joint is cut to help relieve the resistance.

A  1 ½ inch hole is now drilled into the slab.  Using our pumping system, “mud” is now pumped in the cavity to fill the void.  Once the void is filled, the metal poles, chains, eye bolt  and jacks are removed.

The holes drilled into the concrete are now filled with a fast setting mortar.

Pressure Raising:

A  1 ½ inch hole is  drilled into the slab to be raised.  Using our pumping system, “mud” is now pumped under the slab.  The pressure of the “mud” under the slab raises the concrete.    If resistance is met, the joint is cut to help relieve the resistance.

The holes drilled into the concrete are now filled with a fast setting mortar.

What is the “mud” that is used?

The “mud” is a combination of top soil, sand and Portland cement.  Once the “mud” dries, it is hard like like adobe.

Does lifting concrete break or crack the slabs?

Anytime a slab of concrete is moved, there is potential for cracking the slab.  Our staff takes every precaution when lifting a slab either by pressure raising or mechanical raising to ensure that the resistance is not cracking the slab.  However, there are times when cracking does happen.  We are not responsible for any cracking.

Will the slab go back to its original place when it was poured?

We try to get the slab back in its original spot or as close as possible.

Is there a guarantee?

Absolutely! We guarantee that any slab we raise and subsequently falls again within a year, we will come back out free of charge and raise it again.  The guarantee does not cover Acts of God and poor water drainage that wasn’t fixed.

As a homeowner, what do I need to provide?

We will need access to water and electricity.

What about paying?

Payment for services are expected once the job is completed.  At this time, we can’t accept debit or credit cards for payment.
