| 2a) An alcohol is being reacted with a ketone. Following the
Reaction Map we see that first a hemiketal will be formed, followed by the
formation of a ketal.
2b) A secondary alcohol (see question #10 in chapter 3 of this tutor) was formed by the addition of the H2 with a Pt catalyst. In this case, we follow the Reaction Map in reverse, from secondary alcohol back to "Hydrogenation" and see that a ketone was reacted with the hydrogen. So, we simply remove the hydrogens that were added on the C=O bond;
