3a)  The first step is to draw the compound out in a more "user friendly" format.  Remember, each carbon must have 4 bonds to it.

Then use the flow chart in question #14 of the tutor to identify the compound as a hemiacetal.

3b)  Once again, remember that each carbon atom must have 4 bonds attached to it; any "missing" bonds implies that a hydrogen atom occupies that bond.

Then use the flow chart in question #14 of the tutor to identify the compound as an acetal.
